Where best to fit a stair into an existing house without taking lots of space can be a challenge.
The problem: In order to convert an 1860 country victorian house into a guesthouse Bryan had to add some en-suite bathrooms. This had to be done without spoiling the architectural integrity of the house and without using too much space.
The solution: Bryan decided to convert the unused Roof Space into bathrooms. In order to fit a stair into each of the bedrooms to access the bathrooms Bryan decided to tuck in a spiral staircase behind the doors. In this case there was enough room in the roof to build bathrooms without lowering ceilings or changing the roof profile. Light and air was provided through the use of roof windows.
The distance from doors to comer of the room was just enough to fit the stair In the corner and still allow doors to open.
